+++ Meet Bogdan Dziworski on Satursday 9 November!

This year, the Filmer à Tout Prix festival will celebrate its fifteenth birthday. For this reason, it has decided to devote a retrospective to the Polish director Bogdan Dziworski. Twelve silent short films from the 1970’s and 1980’s will be screened from 5 until 9 November at Flagey.
Some other Polish films are also scheduled to be shown at the International Competition, in particular After by Łukasz Konopa.

Bogdan Dziworski
Bogdan Dziworski was born in 1941. The chief characteristic of Dziworski’s films is the way in which he is able to tell a story using refined images. The image is the very essence of any story told by Dziworski. Vif’s 20 September 2013 Point.Culture supplement captures his artistic personality down to a tee: “A key figure in Polish photography and documentary cinema, he often filmed sport (fencing, skiing, hockey, pentathlon, etc.) and the circus; but in a way that was a million miles away from the televised way of following such disciplines. His goal is not to glorify the winners but rather to question (sport’s) gestures and the nature of effort, including its futility. In something approaching poetry, even a kind of magic, his films (which are stripped of words but never of humanity or humour) impress with what lies behind the frames and the with inventiveness of their soundtracks.” A Polish operator and photographer, Dziworski was for a long time linked to the production company Wytwόrnia Filmόw Oświatowych in Łόdź, where he shot a number of documentaries. He was awarded many festival prizes and decorations during his career. His biggest successes were without a doubt Hokej and Olimpiada.

Łukasz Konopa
Łukasz Konopa is a young Polish director currently working in London where he studied directing at the National Film and Television School. He is happiest working in documentaries and fiction. His work has already been shown in many festivals across the world.
